Fair Trade

What is Fair Trade?

Fair Trade is a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers – especially in the South.

Fair Trade Organizations, backed by consumers, are engaged actively in supporting producers, awareness raising and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of conventional international trade.

(Definition of the international umbrella organizations of Fair Trade FLO e.V., WFTO and EFTA).

This definition forms the basis of our work. In our criteria, we follow the umbrella organization of 100 % Fair Traders: the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO). El Puente's WFTO membership and other networks strengthens the common idea of Fair Trade worldwide. In addition, we set individual priorities in our Fair Trade criteria. Thus, we work almost exclusively with small farmer cooperatives and small family businesses.

Transparency is important to us!
